A big thanks to you who gave me book ideas! I am reading John Eldredge's book Walking with God and really enjoying it so far. Still have to borrow NT Wright's latest off of my pastor, but I am discovering some really good books hidden in with the Joyce Meyer drivel and bizzare sci-fi novels about the Rapture. I am looking for new reading material, in particular, books that talk about facing adversity and also anything involving theology of the poor would also be good.

Are there any good "intro to Catholicism" Or "intro to Catholic spirituality" books you'd reccomend for someone who knows absolutely nothing about Catholicism?

I actually know a little bit already, but I'm requesting the book for a friend of mine, who recently asked me "Are Catholics Christian?" and who seems to know very little herself.

Can anyone recommend good books written by or about monks and the monastic life? Either nonfiction or fiction will do, but I'm particularly interested in books that go into depth about the interior lives of monks, such as The Practice of the Presence of God about Brother Lawrence, or The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton.
